Tawa Supermarket Inc., the popular Taiwanese-American grocery store’s parent company, filed a liquor license application earlier this month for 1360 Westwood Blvd., records show. Neither 99 Ranch nor Tawa responded to multiple requests for comment on exactly when the store is expected to open.

99 Ranch Market will set up shop in two floors of retail space formerly occupied by Ross Dress for Less, What Now Los Angeles reported about one year ago.

The filing this month follows project plans submitted to the city by Tawa in March calling for a 49,000-square-foot supermarket.

The Buena Park-based parent company of 99 Ranch is requesting a conditional use permit allowing the sale and dispensing of a full line of alcoholic beverages for off-site consumption, as well as the sale and dispensing of beer and wine for on-site consumption in conjunction with a planned 1,854-square-foot restaurant inside the supermarket. The restaurant would include 73 indoor seats and a 1,036-square-foot outdoor dining area with 44 seats, plans show.

As of last year, 99 Ranch Market had more than 50 stores, most of which are in California. The chain also has a footprint in Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Texas, New Jersey, and other states.

“We are proud to become the ‘Gateway to Asia’ and provide opportunities for mainstream American families and global customers to experience the authentic flavors of Asian cuisines,” the company writes in application documents on file with the city of Los Angeles.
