Partners Paul Hibler and Jeff Goodman of American Gonzo Food Corp and Bruce Horwitz of The Tasting Kitchen first introduced the restaurant in 2019 with a vision to reimagine the classic American steakhouse within the context of its relaxed Southern California surroundings. Over the years, it’s become known for its steaks grilled over an almond wood fire including prime and dry-aged cuts from Santa Carota, Creekstone Farms and Flannery Beef, and a comprehensive selection of seafood and vegetable-forward plates. Chefs Elisha Ben-Haim and Evan Hickey’s menu is an expression of its locale with dishes that showcase regionally sourced produce and ingredients.

At the new restaurant, the American Beauty team expands the culinary offerings with lunch and brunch dishes such as bluefin tuna grain bowl, brisket panzanella salad, The American Beauty Breakfast with eggs, house-cured, smoked thick bacon and homemade maple sausage, and challah French toast topped with farmers market jam. A full bar program includes craft cocktails, a 225-bottle wine list, and American Beauty’s celebrated $10 glass of house wine ”filled to the top.”

American Gonzo collaborated with Frederick Fisher and Partners to design the 6,500 square-foot restaurant and adjacent 2000-square foot wrap-around patio that collectively seat about 300 guests.

The bones of the existing structure – complete with a 25-ft high cupola – were reimagined to reveal American Beauty’s evolution, as well as its origin story. Like the Venice Beach restaurant, an airy, indoor-outdoor horseshoe bar serves as a focal point within the space, with floor-to-ceiling stackable doors that open onto a cozy front patio with fire pits – along with familiar terracotta bar lamps and hand-painted tiling. For larger groups, green plush booths adjacent to the horseshoe bar seat up to six guests, while a back patio offers a tranquil setting for private and semi-private gatherings under the trees, and showcases rose murals commissioned by LA-based artist Jules Muck.

American Beauty will be open from Monday through Thursday from 11:00am to 10:00pm, Friday from 11:00am to 11:00pm, Saturday from 10:00am to 11:00pm, and Sunday from 10:00am to 9:00pm. Reservations can be made through the website or on Resy.

American Beauty is located at 189 The Grove Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90036.

On the south side of the restaurant, American Beauty’s companion, The Win~Dow, serves its smashburgers, fried chicken sandwiches and grain bowls. The Win~Dow at the Grove operates continuously throughout lunch and dinner service, seven days a week from 11:00am to 9:00pm, with space to seat about 30 guests.
