Pacific Dining Car, a century-old steakhouse and historic-cultural monument, was damaged by a fire last Saturday, reports SF Gate. The iconic establishment known for its 24-hour service and famous clientele shuttered its doors during the pandemic.

After closing in 2020, the Idol family auctioned off most of the restaurant’s equipment and decorations, including its marquee sign. According to PDC LLC business owner Wes Idol III, plans for restoration are still underway, despite being closed since September 2020.
Pacific Dining Car first opened in 1921 and was designed to look like a railway train car. Stars like Mae West, Louella Parsons and Mickey Cohen all frequented the spot, and it was also featured in films like “Training Day,” starring Ethan Hawke and Denzel Washington, and the TV series “Shameless.” It also had a Santa Monica location, which permanently closed in 2020.
