Hollywood mainstay 101 Coffee Shop — known locally as Cafe 101 and “101” — is the latest victim of the pandemic, so says Co-Owner Warner Ebbink. The restauranteur Monday confirmed in a statement that 101 Coffee Shop had permanently closed after the rumor mill was abuzz over the weekend at the possibility — thanks in part to inactive social media and a disconnected telephone.

“Because of the ongoing pandemic, the temporary closure of the 101 Coffee Shop has become permanent,” Ebbink said in the statement. “This was a tough decision, but we believe there is a silver lining. It allows us to shift focus to Little Dom’s, which has become an institution in and of itself over the past 13 years, and the recently opened Little Dom’s Seafood up the coast in Carpinteria.”

101 Coffee shop has served the community for almost two decades under the direction of Ebbink and Partner Brandon Boudet. The duo launched what was known at the time as Hollywood Hills coffee shop in 2001 but 101 dates back to as early as 1969. It might most notably be known as having been the backdrop for the 1996 film Swingers.

“After almost 20 years of the 101 Coffee Shop, this closure defines the end of an era,” Ebbink said. “We’ll always be grateful for the shared moments and what the restaurant brought to the LA F&B community, as well as the incredible support of our loyal guests at all our establishments.”
