The new restaurant, Mina’s fifth in Los Angeles, will be one of the many features within the new Heimat fitness facility. Mother Tongue is described as “a place for a night out for dinner with friends, a happy hour cocktail, a business lunch or breakfast with colleagues,” according to a press release. Mina is joined by RSG Group, which owns Gold’s Gym, to open this new restaurant in early 2022. The new 5,000 square-foot restaurant aims to cooperate with every type of diet and restriction out there.

Whether or not you have a membership to the new fitness center, customers can expect many plant-based and whole-food options. The restaurant will also have zero-proof cocktails and biodynamic wines, including a “keto-friendly” section. The corner of La Brea and Romain, which used to be a former co-working space, will be the home to this new concept model that combines fitness facilities and health-forward restaurants. Other amenities at Heimat include a day spa, rooftop pool, jacuzzi, and outdoor bar.

“We really did want to start this in L.A.,” Mina told Los Angeles Times. “Without a doubt, there are certain cities [where] people are really health-focused, and L.A. is probably at the top of the list. Even at the steakhouses, more and more, they are getting around 10% to 15% requesting particular diets and things of that nature, and people are much more focused on health and wellness.”

This is nowhere near Chef Mina’s first restaurant. The restauranteur and cookbook author operates over 40 restaurants worldwide. He is best known for his two namesake restaurants in San Francisco and Las Vegas. Michael Mina San Francisco, which is now permanently closed, earned two Michelin stars in 2006, making it only the fourth restaurant in the Bay Area to accomplish such a feat. Five years later, Esquire Magazine named the same restaurant its annual Restaurant of the Year award.
