Grandi Italiani To Shutter After Service Feb. 9

Community rally for the Canoga Park restaurant around Thanksgiving 2019 wasn't enough to keep the restaurant open.

Grandi Italiani is officially closing its doors after service Sunday, February 9, Owner Aron Celnik late-Wednesday announced on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

The restauranteur was originally going to shutter the restaurant in late-November, 2019, but support from the community gave Grandi Italiani a boost that kept its doors open a few months longer.

“We gave it our best shot, but now it’s time to say goodbye,” Celnik posted to the social media page.

“…Just a little over two months ago I put up a ‘Hail Mary’ on [Facebook] that resulted in a huge outpouring of support from the community. Within days our business almost tripled! Alas, as the weeks went by the excitement faded. While we’ve subsequently [did] better, it isn’t enough to sustain the business.”

Grandi Italiani isn’t the only restaurant Aron Celnik might have to say farewell to this year. His sister eatery Andre’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria will have to eventually close its doors to make way for an incoming mixed-use development, reportedly sometime in June 2020.

“My profound thanks to all of you who’ve been a joy in my life,” Celnik continued via Facebook.

“There are few things I enjoy more than making people happy with our offerings! If you can, please stop by to say goodbye and have a bite to eat. God bless you all.”
