Kakigori means shaved ice in Japanese, and it’s a must-have treat during Japan’s hot and humid summer. It has become a popular treat in Los Angeles, too, since last year when Create Japan and Kuramoto Ice started to pop up in the City. What makes this treat unique is Kakigori’s cloud-like fluffy ice, that gradually melts in the mouth, bringing a surge of cool flavor without the ‘ice-cream headache’. To bring Japanese Kakigori to Los Angeles, Create Japan teamed up with Wanderlust Creamery, well-known for its expertise in crafting flavors from travel memories, and Kuramoto Ice, an ice company from Kanazawa, Japan, a creator of crystal clear ice with clean taste. Each ice block takes over 48 hours to make and for this event, they will be imported to the United States and shaved to order.

This year, 3 available flavors are inspired by Wanderlust’s popular ice cream flavors. Mango and Sticky Rice (vegan), Ube Malted Crunch and Japanese Neapolitan.

Wanderlust Creamery Venice will host a reservation only pop up. Reservations are available via Tock, which will be released on June 16th.

For each event in the Create Japan food series, Culinary Curation allows Los Angeles residents to visit Japan through food and beverages via pop-ups, partner chef and restaurant events, and unique content on social media. Past Culinary Curation ‘Create Japan’ events have included “Hanami” (Cherry Blossom) cocktail evening in collaboration with Beams Suntory, as well as “A Tour of Green Tea” with Steep shop, a rare comparison of Chinese and Japanese green tea.

Kakigori Ice will be available Saturday July 2nd and Sunday July 3rd, 2022 from Noon ~ 8pm at Wanderlust Creamery Venice located at 609 Lincoln Blvd suite b, Venice, CA 90291.
