Previously, What Now Los Angeles reported on Rose Previte opening a collective called Mayden Market, where five “up and coming local LA food concepts” would be opening in the 10,000-square-foot development. It’s now been announced that Lugya’h by Poncho’s Tlayudas will be one of the upcoming tenants, set to open in early 2025, likely in February, according to Eater Los Angeles. This is the latest from the owners of Poncho’s Tlayudas.
This is a massive accomplishment for Alfonso “Poncho” Martinez and his wife/ business partner, Odilia Romero, co-founder of Comunidades Indigenas en Liderazgo (CIELO). The two began selling from their South LA home in 2010 before finally establishing itself in 2016. Eventually, the concept was recognized for its authenticity, and the James Beard Foundation honored Martinez’s skills when he was named a semifinalist in the Best Chef: California division. The duo will now move Poncho’s Tlayudas at 4318 South Main Street to this forthcoming Mayden Market, offering world-class tlayudas and other Oaxacan specialties.
While Maydan Markey was initially scheduled to open in Summer 2024, it has faced some delays and is now set to open early next year. When it does, the development will feature four other local food vendors, an outpost of Previte’s Michelin-starred restaurant Maydan, and a second location of her restaurant Compass Rose. The seven businesses will share communal seating areas and the live-fire hearth. Maydan Markey is a partnership between Previte and Fundrise.
