Filipino Eatery Ma’am Sir Closes Its Silver Lake Doors For Good

Co-Owner Charles Olalia announced the news Friday via Instagram but did not cite a reason for shuttering the award-winning restaurant.

“Thank you to all,” Olalia wrote in the social media announcement. “It was a pleasure to have welcomed you once upon a time. There will come a time when I can welcome you again. There will come a time when I can celebrate your birthdays with you. There will come a time I will meet your babies again. As generic as it sounds, I may have closed this chapter, but I gained family in you all.”

Olalia, in the restaurateur’s heartfelt message, did not provide a reason for pulling the plug on the short-lived Ma’am Sir which replaced Bar Angeles. It could be due to the ongoing pandemic which continues to claim many of the city’s restaurants. Ma’am sir earlier this year did try to pivot its service by offering “bento boxes” to go in the way of Filipino baon.

The restaurant opened to great acclaim having been noted by GQ as one of America’s best new restaurants at the time and was twice listed in the 101 Best Restaurants list by the Los Angeles Times.
