The new restaurant will move into the former home of Tacos Mexico at an unknown time. Owner Erika De La Teja tells What Now Los Angeles that they are waiting on a CUP approval to open. The local businesswoman, who is also behind the new chicken restaurant called Flipping Byrds in the area, is also waiting for the approval of a liquor license for the business. This restaurant is not to be confused with Mr. Tempo’s Mar Chingon in Downey, which Teja also helped bring to life.

Although Teja is an experienced business owner, her partner comes from a family of Birria restaurant owners in Tijuana. Together they will open this brand new restaurant in hopes of serving authentic Tijuana-style tacos. Teja says she plans to serve various tacos with different meat options but wants to focus on birria, a popular Mexican dish that originated in the Jalisco state and is made traditionally with lamb, goat, or sheep meat.

“We are super excited, been working on this project for a while now,” Teja tells What Now Los Angeles. “We will have beer and wine, [and] a fun, clean atmosphere with some of the best birria you have had. Our Tijuana style [is made] with different meats [and] is super delicious.”
