The new coffee shop has few details regarding the business, but owner Marissa Aversa hopes to open by January 2022. The cafe will replace Fruzion, a dessert shop specializing in crepes and gelatos, bringing their locations from three to one in Glendale. Awkward Coffee will be under construction for the remainder of 2021 as it builds its way into a 1,350 square-foot space.

“Awkward Coffee is a coffee-focused, pop-punk-themed coffee shop where everyone is made to feel welcomed,” according to their Instagram. “Whether you’re coming in for a cup of drip, an ‘awkward’ style cold brew, or the see our collection of merchandise, we have something for you.”

The brand new cafe will have plenty of opportunities to create a fanbase in Chatsworth. The nearest coffee shop to the new location is Starbucks, which is a little less than a mile away. Awkward Coffee joins several other restaurants and retailers attached to Devonshire Place, including Ora Grill, Pet Cafe, and The Munch Box.
