The family-owned pizza company will move into the vacant space next to Apsara Coffee later this year, according to Food GPS. Pizzanista! was founded in October 2010 by legendary professional skateboarder Salman Agah. Following an incredible skating career, Agah wanted to create a pizza that blends New York pizza’s historical flavor and thin-crust style with California’s abundance of fresh produce and small-batch ingredients. Agah recruited pizza maestro Steve Samson to help develop its distinctive homemade recipes.

Pizzanista! features traditional hand-tossed pizza dough made fresh daily using 200-year old sourdough cultures from Naples, hand-milled marinara sauce made from California tomatoes, innovative pizza toppings, and farm-fresh salads. Creative and irreverent weekly specials are available (including the infamous Macaroni & Cheese Pizza on Sundays), as well as weekend brunch, vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. Pizzanista! takes pride in using locally-grown produce and humanely-raised meats whenever possible.

Agah spent most of his life as a professional skateboarder before turning to the pizza world. The Washington D.C-native started skating at five and began riding as a sponsored amateur for Powell Peralta by 16. Agah skated professionally for Real, Firm, and Black Label before returning to Powell Peralta, the brand he rides for to this date. Throughout his career, he was voted Thrasher Magazine’s Skater of the Year in 1993, Transworld Skateboarding’s Most Influential Skater of the Decade in the 1990’s and Big Brother Magazine’s Most Beautiful Skater.

This will become the second location in Los Angeles, following the original at 2019 E. 7th St. The well-known pizza chain also has locations in Tokyo, Japan, and Seoul, South Korea. The international recognition backed up with the star-studded ownership has led to Pizzanista! being featured in esteemed national and international press outlets such as Vogue, GQ, The History Channel, The Food Network, CNN, CBS, and many more.
