The new restaurant will sit in a 1,263 square-foot space for the next ten years, according to leasing representative Nicole Deflorian. The original location, at 1147 E Colorado St, was founded by brothers Daniel and Chris Skaf, along with Chef Javier Crespo in August 2017. The new Rockbird will have a new owner as well, Carlos Gutierrez. The trio of owners has yet to announce an official opening date for the new restaurant.
The Skaf family aren’t strangers to the restaurant industry. The brother duo opened Skaf’s restaurant and bakery in 2012 but was forced to close due to a fire. They learned to grill from their father Sam at Skaf’s Grill in North Hollywood. Their mother Nora and Aunt Marlene also run Skaf’s Lebanese Cuisine in Glendale.
On top of the fried chicken sandwiches, the shop offers high-standard sides that aren’t usually seen at fast-casual chicken spots. Some sides include fried brussel sprouts with shaved red onions and honey balsamic glaze; corn-on-the-cob with garlic-rosemary butter, “auntie’s spice mix” and parmesan; and macaroni and cheese with panko crust. You can try all these sides without a chicken with the No Bird Trio.
Correction: An earlier version of this article misstated that Rockbird sells Cornish game hen. This item is no longer on the menu, as the restaurant is focusing on chicken sandwiches, wings, and tenders.
