The project recently received unanimous approval from the Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council.

Dennis Smith, with D’Camp Hospitality Group and D’Camp Entertainment, is behind the project.

The Council asked about possible issues, things to avoid, and the project’s impact, Smith said during a phone interview with What Now Los Angeles on Wednesday.

“We’re looking good and we’re moving forward,” he said. “It’s all coming together.”

He also had a meeting with the LA Police Department officials, who went over things to expect, what to avoid, and security. The next step includes another city meeting regarding the club’s Conditional Use Permit, he added.

Smith has been working on the project for nearly four years. He expects to open in Fall 2022.

Rome will be about 25,000 square feet and include a “mini colosseum.” It will be both an indoor and outdoor venue offering a wide array of world-class amenities, Smith explained.

The indoor area will consist of its exclusive nightclub, while its outdoor (Day Club) area will offer a unique water/fire element, several private cabanas, and several lounge areas, according to the website.

The nightclub will be open to everyone and anyone who follows the rules and dress code, Smith added.

Smith’s ultimate goal is for Rome to be not only an incredible nightclub, but an event hosting venue as well. The space could be used for anything from award show after parties to fashion shows to local musical performances.

“It will bring in a tremendous amount of income in the downtown LA area,” he said. “It will drive a lot of people to the area.”

Rome will also have a philanthropic side, Smith said.

“We’re going to donate 5 percent of our annual net profit to a local homeless charity,” he said. “You’ve got to be willing to clean up your own back yard… Local business owners have to step up to the plate and help.”

A Chicago native, Smith said LA has been nothing but good to him and this is his way of giving back to the community.

“This is my way of giving back to the city of angels that has been nothing but great for me,” he said. “I believe in my heart it will help reboot downtown LA.”

There will be a lot of cross promotion and partnering with venues across the country, and marketing will be even further, Smith said. He wants Rome to be known nationally and internationally. “I want to do something really fabulous,” Smith said. “It will become an iconic part of the LA skyline.”
