San Francisco-Based Vive La Tarte Shutters Silver Lake Storefront

Mollusk Surf—also out of San Fran— closed a few doors down earlier this year.

Vive La Tarte, the San Francisco-based bakery that in 2019 expanded to Los Angeles with an outpost in Silver Lake, has permanently shuttered on Sunset Blvd. A manager at the original San Fran location Thursday confirmed the news in a phone call with What Now Los Angeles (WNLA). October 2020 would have been Vive La Tarte’s one-year anniversary, at 3515 Sunset Blvd.

Vive La Tarte’s 1,430-square-foot space has since been listed for rent. The turn-key restaurant suite underwent a $1,000,000 buildout with a full kitchen and “stunning contemporary California design featuring oak-clad counter with outfitted espresso bar, beautiful finishes, and abundant light,” according to the for-lease listing.

The space seats 40 inside, 12 outside, and has seven and a half years left on its existing lease.

Vive La Tarte is the second San Fran-based company to shutter in this retail strip. Mollusk Surf Shop, which opened in 2014, closed its doors in February. Remaining tenants in the strip include Aesop, A.P.C, Heyday, and Kreation.

Reps for Vive La Tarte, which is known for its unusual pastry combinations including its “tacro,” a croissant-taco hybrid, did not immediately provide a reason for closing when reached by WNLA.
