Miranda Megill, the owner of Le Pink and neighboring Flore Vegan, has been asked by new landlord Engine Real Estate to vacate both storefronts, at 3820 and 3818 Sunset Blvd, on or before January 31, 2020.

Both businesses have been staples in the community since 2005 and 2006, respectively.

“This is the only income for my family and I have three small children,” an emotional Megill in a telephone interview Wednesday told What Now Los Angeles.

“We are being made disposable by a building owner that prides itself in gentrification.”

Megill on Tuesday was given the eviction notice (pictured below), not directly by Engine, but by way of Property Management Associates, Inc.

“I wasn’t even notified by my landlord or given the opportunity to negotiate my lease renewal,” Megill said.

“[Engine’s] intention is to reposition the building to include corporate storefronts, not mom-and-pops.”

Engine recently acquired the strip of retail spaces where Le Pink, Flore Vegan, and other “mom-and-pops” are situated.

Megill said that all of the center’s remaining tenants have one to two years left in their leases, and will be asked to leave at the expiration of those agreements.

“Engine’s integrated approach to real estate investing allows it to identify underutilized properties in the hottest neighborhoods of LA and transform them into revitalized spaces through redesign and renovation,” according to the company’s website.

“In addition, Engine’s in-house leasing agents, sales agents, and property managers allow it to respond to the market in real-time and optimize value.

Engine was not immediately available for comment.

Staff at Le Pink and Flore Vegan were made aware of the eviction notices Wednesday morning, and Megill is hopeful she’ll be able to reopen both businesses elsewhere.

Relocation is already underway for Le Pink which next year will make a triumphant return at 3208 Sunset Blvd, a short ten-minute walk away from its original location.

“I’m grateful to Silver Lake for providing us a home for a long time and allowing our small businesses to thrive.”

This is awful news. I wonder about the other tenants on that block. Matrushka Construction is a great place to buy made in LA (in the shop) dresses and clothing that are uniquely LA.
