Kittiya Ruanmoon and Ruampon Trisransri of Whitefin Sushi and Thai in Miami, Florida — alongside Wongsakorn Meesomsak of Sushi Warriors in Garden Grove — are coming together to open up something doing business as Haru Japanese Cuisine. The new restaurant will take over a unit within the Gateway Center shopping plaza on 1628 Puente Ave in Baldwin Park. The new restaurant could take over the unit currently occupied by Candilejas Authentic Cuisine, a Mexican restaurant, according to a liquor license filed by the owners of Haru Japanese Cuisine.

“Haru,” which means “Spring” in Japanese — and “day” in Korean — is a title given to several different Japanese-based restaurants around the country. Right here in LA, Haru Sushi might be the biggest name. But Haru Japanese Cuisine could be related to the Chef Haru who operates something called Haru’s Cuisine, but it has not been confirmed by the owners.

It’s likely Haru Japanese Cuisine could be a sushi joint as well, considering Meesomsak’s Sushi Warriors serves a wide variety of sushi. As for Whitefin Sushi and Thai, it doesn’t seem to have ever opened.

Aside from Candilejas, the Gateway Center currently houses Dollar Tree Store, Subway, Starbucks, PHO Hai Vietnamese, and plenty of other retail shops.
