The new location will move into the former home of Obicà Mozzarella Bar, which closed down back in 2020, according to Toddrickallen. Tu Madre Santa Monica will likely open in the Spring or Summer of 2022, pending approval of a liquor license. Owner Joshua Pourgol started serving tacos and breakfast burritos in 2015 with love from a small and colorful shop in Westwood. Since then, he has opened three more locations in the area, including Hancock Park, Los Feliz, and West Hollywood.

Tu Madre has an uncomplicated menu packed with flavor, starting with their breakfast served all day. Their main menu items are their selection of tacos, burritos, and bowls, with 14 different meat and vegan options. For something smaller, Tu Madre offers street corn, beans and rice, and street tacos with either braised beef, pastor, or chipotle braised chicken. Of course, the last thing to try is their red velvet churros with cream cheese frosting.

“Our food celebrates flavors from across the city with a diverse array of ingredients and cooking techniques, including slow-roasted and braised meats and house-made fermented chili salsas,” according to their website. Plant-based tacos, burritos, and bowls are available so vegans can fiesta too. Our red velvet churros have been a sweet staple since opening.”
