The Ulrich brothers have requested an alcohol permit for 70 S Oak Street in Downtown Ventura. Their new restaurant and bar will offer specialty coffee, cocktails, breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. Conditions for approval of the license include not serving alcohol beyond 11 p.m. any day of the week.
Model Citizen will settle into the 1,362 square-foot vacancy in a historic three-tenant building that was erected in 1934 and given a facade makeover in the 1950s. The new restaurant and bar will replace what had formerly been a photography studio and an antiques store. 805Foodie notes that Model Citizen will share a narrow walkway with Ventura Coast Brewing Co., which currently relies on “food trucks as its sole source of on-site food” and the construction of a side entrance and windows in the adjoining wall suggests that the two may be brewing something together.
Although there are few public details about the new restaurant and bar, one may expect the baseball-loving brothers to incorporate elements of America’s favorite pastime into Model Citizen’s design–just as the Ulrich brothers had done with the baseball iconography of Prospect, which was named after the familiar term for a hopeful young player who has not yet made it to the majors.
While an official opening date has yet to be announced and the Ulrich brothers were unavailable for comment at the time of this article, we’ll keep you posted on when the owners call “play ball” for Model Citizen.
