Velverie Café and Tea House is Coming to Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills residents will soon have a new cafe at which to rest their well-heeled laurels — and if the restaurant's online presence is any hint, patrons are sure to be seeped in old Hollywood glamour.

Velverie Café and Tea House is slated for 9737 S Santa Monica Blvd in Beverly Hills, the former home of Italian restaurant Sfixio, according to a pending liquor license application last updated on July 21. Sfixio had occupied the space since 2011 and, while details are scant, appears to have closed quietly sometime this year.

While Velverie hasn’t yet declared an official opening date, owner Chloe Strumpf took to her personal Instagram in April to announce its forthcoming arrival.

“I wanted to create a place I felt like I hadn’t seen yet but knew was possible,” Strumpf wrote in an April 18 post. “A place where everyone feels welcome and special.”

To be sure, that place will be adorned in the glitter of Hollywood’s Golden Age. The sole post on the cafe’s Instagram bears its logo overlaid atop scenes from classic Hollywood films, while its website is decked out in purple, pink and green art deco squares.

What Now Los Angeles has reached out to Strumpf for additional comments. Meanwhile, sign up for news about Velverie on its website or follow its Instagram account.
