Venice’s Six-Seat Eatery to Expand in Artists-in-Residence Building

Last summer James Murez told What Now Los Angeles that he hoped his unnamed, six-seat restaurant at 800 S Main Street would open in early 2021. However, expansion plans have delayed its debut.

While its snug seating occupancy will remain the same, Murez requested a permit “authorizing the change of use of 277 square feet of ground floor area and 1,750 square feet of the basement level of an existing Artist in Residence dwelling unit.”

The proposed 2,027 square-foot restaurant will provide “an entrance on Main Street with an interior seating area, restroom, and kitchen at the ground level and a larger kitchen and storage area in the basement level.” Murez will keep the originally proposed 74-square-foot service area the same.

The longtime Venetian, known for his activist work in the community, owns the three-story artists-in-residence building just two blocks from the Venice boardwalk and beach.

The unnamed restaurant will have a seasonal, rotating menu foregrounding healthy foods like smoothies, omelets, and salads.
