“Growing up in Southern California, I have immense respect for the Jewish delis in Los Angeles—some of my earliest deli memories are in the booths of legendary places like Langer’s, Brent’s, and Pico Kosher Deli—so this is a bit of a homecoming for me,” Wise Sons Founder Evan Bloom said in a statement. “Los Angeles has the best collection of Jewish deli food in the world and we’re excited to join that already existing pantheon.”

The 1,900-square-foot Culver City outpost of the Bay Area-based chain offers Wise Son’s trademark California-inspired deli fare, with additional menu options just for L.A. Always on the menu are matzo ball soup, potato latkes, fermented sour pickles, pastrami, corned beef, a smoked salmon bagel and bottomless cups of coffee. For Culver City, Wise Sons added two sandwiches: The “Diner Tuna Melt” — a tuna melt with wild albacore, lettuce, tomato and horseradish aioli, grilled with American and Swiss cheese on rye — and the “No. 19”, a tribute to Langer’s Deli in Westlake. The No. 19 is an untoasted sandwich with Russian dressing and cold Swiss on rye, Wise Sons’ take on one of Langer’s most beloved items.

To oversee the look and feel of the restaurant’s interior, Bloom tapped creative director Danny Gonzales, who has worked with Wise Sons on other locations as well. For the new restaurant, Gonzales paid homage to L.A. Jewish deli tradition across three art walls. One holds a collection of Bloom family photos in an abstract layout; another displays vintage-style pennants created by artist Scott Richards that display the logos of L.A. Jewish delis; and the third is a mural by illustrator Alexandra Bowman depicting a busy deli scene.

Wise Sons is open from Monday through Friday from 7 A.M. to 2 P.M. and on weekends from 8 A.M. to 2 P.M. It offers pickup and delivery through Doordash and Caviar. The restaurant plans to add dinner hours as well as beer and wine options soon, according to its website.
