Catalina Island Company, Catalina Island’s premier resort operator, announced the opening of Avalon’s newest waterfront restaurant, Pier 24. Following a top to bottom transformation, Pier 24 offers a dining experience with oceanfront seating, paying homage to the original Steamer Pier, once home to William Wrigley’s cross-channel vessels, including the S.S. Catalina commissioned in 1924.

“With Pier 24, we aim to celebrate Catalina Island’s rich history while providing a modern and welcoming dining experience,” said Hunter Rusack, Senior Vice President, Operations, Catalina Island Company in a statement. “We are thrilled to reimagine this historic building and offer both locals and visitors a new place to enjoy exceptional food, stunning views, and the unique charm of Avalon.”

Pier 24 honors its historical roots by celebrating the enthusiasm of the many visitors and iconic ships that have crossed the channel. For many years, the pier served as the docking place for eager visitors to first step onto the island playground. Along the way, passengers would frequently marvel at the sight of a pod of dolphins playing or flying fish skimming across the water. Magazines, souvenirs, snacks, and drinks were served on board, while bands played music for excited guests. Upon docking, visitors were greeted by a contingent of local townspeople as young people dived for coins tossed by passengers from the steamer.

Today, large picture windows offer harbor views, while the open dining area features whimsical, vintage photos from a bygone era. Two outdoor patios provide the perfect setting to enjoy the ocean breeze and picturesque sights of the Catalina Casino and bobbing boats in the harbor. With a menu featuring a variety of fresh salads, seafood, specialty pizzas, pasta, burgers, paninis, and sandwiches, as well as delicious desserts and specialty cocktails. For younger guests, the restaurant serves classic favorites such as pizza and chicken tenders, ensuring there is something for everyone at this beautiful harbor front location.
