On March 29, Santa Monica will welcome an exciting new concept to the neighborhood with Burgette. Just steps from the ocean front in the former Stout Burgers & Beer location, the moody small plates restaurant and wine bar is helmed by chef Sean MacDonald.

“I love the romance of walking along the streets of Paris. Burgette is inspired by that vibe. It’s reminiscent of a wine bar you’d find on a side street while walking from the Eiffel Tower back to your hotel – dimly lit with music playing and the hustle and bustle of people inside enjoying themselves,” says MacDonald.

Situated inside of a 100-year-old building, Burgette will offer table and bar seating for up to 45 guests. The large, convex bar is a focal point of the room, outfitted with a collection of copper pots and pans that belong to MacDonald. A mix of dark wood and rust red wallpaper compliment the original brick, timestamped 1924. The cozy ‘champagne room’ fits up to 16 people and maintains its own identity as an intimate French courtyard.

On the menu, guests will find an array of seasonal dishes and imported French cured meats and cheeses, including a 72-Hour Beef Short-rib Bourgogne jus; the “La Burgette” smashed wagyu, pickles, mimolette with a Parisian sauce; salmon smash burger; Crispy Chicken Cordon Bleu; Mushroom with French onion jus; and Radish salad with tarragon, creme fraiche and French olive oil. The restaurant’s curated wine list is composed of wines from different regions of France.

Burgette’s dining room will be overseen by general manager Helleluyah Walcott and the kitchen will be led by chef de cuisine Jeff Whittaker.

MacDonald also owns Bar Monette, one door down from Burgette. As for future restaurants, the Canadian breakout chef said he’s cooking up more concepts, “Potentially a small chef’s counter or private dinners for clients.” However, he was not ready to share further details at this time.

Burgette will be open from noon to midnight Wednesday through Sunday.
