Twenty years ago, entrepreneur Ugo Pascarella wanted to recreate the authentic experience of Naples, which many consider the home of pizza. In 2002, he opened Ugo Cafe with a commitment to serving wholesome Italian food in a warm and welcoming environment. After expanding to a second location in Santa Monica, Pascarella is ready to open another new concept: Ugo Trattoria. The new restaurant will move into the former home of Burgerim.

Few details regarding the new restaurant have been revealed, and Pascarella turned down the opportunity to add any additional information when asked by What Now Los Angeles. Based on the name, customers can expect a small Italian-style eating establishment that falls between a ristorante and an osteria in terms of formality. The restaurant itself will feature classic Italian dishes made with the highest quality of natural ingredients and flavors.

This is a massive accomplishment for Pascarella, who opens this new restaurant less than a half mile from Ugo Cafe’s second location. Pascarella made a name for himself through his original Culver City Ugo Cafe location. The restaurant is the only Italian restaurant on the west side of Los Angeles that is VPN certified for authentic Neapolitan pizza. The Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana is a prestigious seal that only 95 restaurants in the United States have earned.

If Ugo Cafe is any indication of what’s to come for Ugo Trattoria, customers should expect a high degree of authentic Italian cooking within an inviting environment. There is no exact opening date for this new restaurant, but it will likely be before the end of the year, considering Pascarella recently applied for a liquor license. The new Ugo Trattoria will have to compete with several other nearby Italian restaurants, such as Colapasta and Elephante.
