An ABC application filed with The State of California suggests that Joe’s Crab Shack — a seafood chain made famous by its crab buckets and boisterous energy — could be returning to its former 230 Portofino Way home in Redondo Beach.

According to an associate at Joe’s Crab Shack (as well as Yelp and multiple commercial property websites), the Redondo Beach location has been “permanently closed” for some time now.

The application lists Michael Kelly of Kelly Companies – owner and operator of 10 restaurant brands including Joe’s Crab Shack – as the applicant, and the application also appears to double as a catering permit request. What’s more, the Joe’s Crab Shack website still lists the Portofino Way space as a “private events venue.”

While it’s unclear in what capacity the concept will return, the seaside location remains primed for JCS’ comeback as the exterior of the building has gone seemingly unchanged.

Kelly did not respond to WNLA’s request for comment.
