Avenue Italy will soon be reopening in Redondo Beach under a new name. Taormina will be located on Catalina Ave., just half a block away from the former Avenue Italy space. Owner Al Sanjar tells What Now Los Angeles that they are planning to debut in December and are currently in the permitting process.

“There’s more traffic on Catalina, it’s a happening place where all the action is,” explains Sanjar.

Sanjar splits his time between California and Italy, living six months a year in each.

“The restaurant is named after a very famous city in Sicily. We’ll take inspiration from there, but will serve a combination of food from all the regions in Italy,” Sanjar continues.

Sanjar says Taormina will have roughly the same menu as Avenue Italy (which serves a variety of Italian staples like pasta, pizza, salads, fried calamari, bruschetta, and more) and it will also have a patio for outdoor dining.

Avenue Italy’s Rancho Palos Verdes location is still open.
