The new cafe comes in part to a redevelopment of LAX’s Terminal 3 that is scheduled to launch in phases starting this month, according to Eater LA. Five new restaurants will open in the area starting on October 5. Later this month, Nyesha Arrington’s Native is expected to open as well. Terminal 3 will also welcome Alfred Coffee, Ludcris’ Chicken + Beer, and a new Jamba in the coming months. The exact opening date for the new Homeboy cafe is unknown, but flyers can expect to see it before the end of the year, possibly early 2023.

Homeboy Industries is a non-profit organization, led by founder Gregory Boyle, that has become the largest gang rehabilitation and re-entry program in the country. To spread its footprint, Homeboy Industries launched Homegirl/ Homeboy Cafe with the goal of giving clients a safe place to visit or work as well as a place that won’t discriminate due it past criminal charges. Homegirl Cafe can currently be found near Chinatown at 130 W. Bruno St.

This won’t be the first time Homeboy Industries has entered LAX. A few years ago, the company expanded Homegirl Cafe to the airport’s Terminal 4. Homeboy Industries achieved this by partnering with Florida-based Areas USA, mainly because of the airport’s policies behind hiring individuals with criminal records. It’s unclear whether or not Areas USA will be associated with this new location.
