Last Thursday, the city approved a project called the Greenroom, located in the former Greenblatt’s space near the Laugh Factory. The project’s owner is listed as Greenblatt’s former owner and operator, Jeffrey Kavin.

According to the public records, the Greenroom will be an upscale restaurant and bar with a total of 160 seats, open 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily. Construction will take approximately four months, and the new restaurant should be open by this summer.

Greenblatt’s was founded in 1926 by Herman Greenblatt and was acquired by the Kavin family in the 1940s. The restaurant was known for its Jewish deli staples like pastrami on rye and matzo ball soup, as well as its extensive wine collection. The likes of Marilyn Monroe, Marlon Brando, Janis Joplin and Billie Holiday were all regular customers, and Halle Berry even told Esquire that it was her favorite deli.

In 2021, Eater LA reported that Kavin was looking to sell Greenblatt’s in order to reopen the establishment. Luckily, it looks like that has happened.
