The space presently serves as home to Tropical Buffet & Grill, a casual sushi and stir-fry joint, and it is unknown when the switch will take place.

The first Kalaveras opened in Bellflower in 2016 before expanding all around SoCal in places such as Newport Beach, North Hollywood, and San Bernardino. In total, the family-owned business has 24 outposts and counting, per the Kalaveras website.

Decorated in bright and vibrant colors with motifs that reflect the time-honored tradition of El Dia de Los Muertos, Kalaveras is a “blend of innovative urban mixology, Latin American culinary classics, a tribute to well-known Hispanic artists, and nothing but buenas vibras!” Upon nightfall, Kalaveras becomes a glowing oubliette with backlights that seemingly illuminate spirits within the walls, lending to the eatery’s cultural tribute.

The menu offers appetizers, entrees including massive molcajetes, tacos, burritos, bowls, and, of course, an expansive list of tequilas and mezcals in addition to a full bar.

Co-owners Daniel and Jose Brito did not respond to What Now Los Angeles‘ request for comment.
