Co-owner Jennifer Feltham told L.A. Taco that, since the new space is already set up as a restaurant, they could potentially open within the next six months and are currently working on permits. While the kitchen at the new Long Beach location will be bigger, Feltham said they will continue to offer the same simple and delicious mesquite-grilled bites as the others, including burritos, quesadillas, chimichangas and, of course, tacos.
Founders Teodoro Diaz-Rodriguez, Jr. and Feltham originally opened Sonoratown to pay homage to the small border town in Mexico where Teo grew up. What started as one tiny taco counter in the Fashion District is growing into a taco empire. The taqueria known for its Sonora-style carne asada and handmade flour tortillas originally opened in Downtown L.A. in 2016. After winning the highly coveted TACO MADNESS championship in 2021, Sonoratown opened a second location in Mid-City the following year.
The owners could not be immediately reached for comment about the new Long Beach location.
