At the corner of Termino Avenue and Anaheim Street in Long Beach’s Zaferia neighborhood sits a sizable building that has seen its fair share of culinary concepts dash through like evasive food phantoms.

Before the space was home to Karna and Geoff Rau’s Big Easy-inspired eatery Bar Envie it was the whiskey-centric Tenessee Jack’s where food took a back seat to its fermented grain mash selection. And before that, it was the beer-only Red Leprauchaun which served dense Irish dishes in small, piping-hot skillets.
Now, the Raus, who also own Anaheim Street’s Roundin’ 3rd Sports Bar & Grill and the next-door upscale Colombian joint Selva, have partnered with fellow husband-and-wife team Levi and Harmony Fried of the Long Beach Bread and Beer Labs to turn 4000 Anaheim Street (Bar Envie) into a beer lab.
Geoff Rau says, via Brian Addison’s Longbeachize.com, the team “will take the next two weeks to reconfigure the space before reopening.”
This means the Fried’s famous sourdough pizza and quality beer will be available on the busy clock sooner rather than later. As for the Raus, they plan to stay involved with the new concept but also intend to spend more time in New Orleans where they own a home.
