The new restaurant comes from the minds behind Bestia and Bavel, husband and wife duo Ori Menashe and Genevieve Gergis. Saffy’s, named after the couple’s daughter, is expected to open in the heart of East Hollywood in late spring/ early summer, hopefully by June 2022. The restaurant will move into the former home of the short-lived Brooklyn cafe Five Leaves, which closed in 2020, only nine months after opening. The building has been left vacant ever since.

This will be the duo’s first attempt at lunch/ mid-day service, as Bestia and Bavel have offered strictly dinner service in the Arts District. Dinner will still be an option at Saffy’s. Guests can expect a variety of Middle Eastern food, including Egyptian and Israeli flavors, according to Eater LA. Unlike Bestia and Bavel, this will be a much more casual environment for the group, with Leah Bunch serving as the partner and director of operations.

When the new restaurant opens, it will be situated in a perfect area for business. Across the street are Found Oyster and Square One, two popular restaurants in East Hollywood. On top of that, Saffy’s will sit next to the Church of Scientology and a couple of blocks away from Kaiser Permanente, Barnsdall Art Park, and Los Angeles City College. Saffy’s will offer a unique variety of flavors, a perfect addition for neighboring neighborhoods Little Armenia and Thai Town.
