Primo’s Donuts, a longstanding doughnut shop in Sawtelle since 1956, is expanding with a location nearby. Ownership has snatched up the Westwood space that was home to Stan’s Donuts which in April permanently closed down as a result of the novel coronavirus pandemic. The doughnut shop was only a few years shy of being in business nearly as long as Primo’s.
The news was announced via a press release and reps for Primo’s Donuts on Tuesday told What Now Los Angeles that a fall 2020 opening was likely for the incoming doughnut shop, at 10948 Weyburn Ave.
“We were so upset when we heard that Stan’s had decided to close its doors early
due to COVID-19,” Primo’s Owners Ralph and Celia Primo said in the release. “There aren’t many family-owned mom and pops like us left that bake donuts fresh every morning, and we have always felt that we shared the same type of customers and vision for our businesses. The location in the heart of Westwood Village is so iconic, and we are honored to have a chance to open our doors here. We wish Stan the best in his retirement.”
Primo’s Donuts recently celebrated its 64th Anniversary by giving away free buttermilk bites, an annual tradition for the company. In the last few years Primo’s
has added to its classic menu with the launch of vegan donuts this past year, a Hawaiian-inspired summer collection, and recently added gluten-free and sourdough donuts.
The buck doesn’t stop in Westwood for Primo’s. The company in 2018 announced a Venice outpost (which has yet to open) and has a Culver City outpost in the works, according to the release. The location is forthcoming.
