Matthew Kenney Bringing NYC Plant-Based Italian Eatery Sestina To Culver City

Pasta and wine bar replaces Wildcraft in November.

Matthew Kenney Cuisine (MKC), a plant-based lifestyle brand founded by celebrity chef, author, and wellness entrepreneur Matthew Kenney, is opening an outpost of its NYC-based Sestina pasta and wine bar in Culver City, according to a press release Monday. Sestina is expected to debut in November 2020. It replaces Wildcraft, at 9725 Culver Blvd.

“Sestina offers a healthy, plant-based adaptation of universally-loved Italian classics, using authentic techniques and recipes that remain true to the cuisine, and impeccably-sourced ingredients,” Kenney said in the release. “Honoring traditional styles while constantly experimenting with new dishes is what makes it unique, not just in the plant-based market, but the restaurant industry as a whole.”

The menu features several well-known pasta dishes, all plant-based, and all crafted into small plate servings. The beverage program highlights biodynamic and organic Italian wines and the cocktails pay homage to classic Italian cocktails characteristically interpreted by MKC. There’s also a marketplace and meal kit program.

The interior, designed by the MKC team, features an open kitchen and patio seating. The glass-enclosed pasta “bar” itself, is the focal point of the dining room, providing diners the ability to watch chefs create their meals. The wood-burning oven is another focal point within the pasta bar.

“This is a huge year of growth for the plant-based market, especially given the current health crisis,” Kenny said. “People are realizing that they need to take care of themselves more than ever, in a way that is sustainable and enjoyable. We continue to see a real shift in the restaurant industry, which has been something I’ve been working toward for a very long time.”

This is Sestina’s second location after it originally opened up in NYC on 67 2nd Avenue on top of the previous location of Kenney’s Plant Food and Wine.
