The Los Angeles planning department has given approvals for the construction of a seven-story, 23-unit apartment project at 936 S. The residential development will rise to a maximum height of about 68 feet near the northwestern corner of San Marino Street and South Mariposa Avenue and hold one studio, 20 one-bedrooms, and two two-bedrooms, according to project application materials on file with the city.

The multifamily project will move forward with Tier-3 project approvals under the city’s transit-oriented communities program, including a 70-percent increase in density on top of 18 base units allowed, as well as 30-percent yard setback reductions. As a result, the developer will set aside three units for extremely low-income households.

Designed by Van Nuys-based firm Maly Architects, the development will also offer about 1,800 square feet of open space, including a 750-square-foot roof deck and 1,050 square feet of private balconies. It will also provide 17 automobile parking spaces and 23 long-term bike spaces in an underground parking garage, plans show.
