“The Butter End has been doing custom cakes for 13 years. This will be our first retail space, which will offer small takeaway orders great for gifting or just walk-ins that are looking for something tasty. We’ll also have a contemporary showroom where we’ll display our custom cakes.” She described the new space as “whimsical, fun, artful.”

Bailey added, “Customers will be able to buy individual desserts as well as smaller cakes – all made with locally sourced, organic ingredients. They’ll also be able to meet with our design team to discuss custom orders.”

The Butter End’s Gardena location will still handle the baking and decorating for all custom orders. That said, everything in Santa Monica’s bakery case will be made on site.

“This will not be your typical bakery case. Everything will be elevated and beautifully finished, from our cupcakes to the packaging. We’ll have single layer cakes in individual boxes, tres leches cakes with edible flowers, butterscotch budinos, drop cookies, black and white cookies, muffins, scones, seasonal items,” and much more.

Bailey is aiming to have the shop open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
