It’s unknown which stall the famous Oyster company is moving into, but customers can expect them to move into the 103-year-old open-air market in early Summer 2022, hopefully around June, according to owner Christopher Tompkins, who first opened in the summer of 2019 as a pop-up near the beach. This will become the third brick-and-mortar for the company, with another location in Santa Barbara and pop-ups at Smorgasburgs in Los Angeles and Miami.

Grand Central Market doesn’t often have much turnover for its tenants, creating an arsenal of longtime occupants, making this even more impressive for Broad Street Oyster Co. The last business to exit the market came in 2021 when Belcampo shut its doors following allegations of mislabeled grass-fed organic meat. Other tenants in the market include Horse Thief BBQ, Eggslut, Villa Moreliana, and Sticky Rice.

This isn’t the only big announcement for the company either. Broad Street Oyster Co. will expand its current location in Santa Barbara, taking over the Modern Times Brewery tasting room, towards the end of the year. The new When both locations open, starting with the Grand Central Market spot, customers can expect all of the hits (a curated selection of popular menu items) that made the relatively new restaurant a must-try destination. Some popular dishes include lobster rolls, caviar, and burgers.

“We’re beyond excited to be opening our next outpost of Broad Street Oyster Co. in the downright legendary Grand Central Market,” Tompkins told Eater LA in an email. “There are few places in California, let alone the country, that house such a perfect ruckus of different culinary styles, and we know that we’re going to feel right at home when we open later this year.”
