The Larchmont location, located at 148 North Larchmont Blvd., is expected to open later this year. They were the first tenants to join the newly renovated Larchmont Mercantile, formerly the Lipson Building. The Santa Monica location at 2441 Main St., will open in Spring 2022. Owners and siblings Hana and Nile Dreiling started this business in Hanalei, HI, in 2018. This will become Holey Grail Donut’s fourth and fifth brick-and-mortar, with two storefronts in Hanalei and Oahu, plus a food truck in Waikiki.

When the Hawaii-based micro chain finally makes its Los Angeles debut, customers will get to experience their famous Taro donut, made with taro roots as the base. All of the donuts from Holey Grail Donuts are fried with coconut oil, giving them an element of “stealth health.” Some of their popular donuts include Dragonslayer (with dragonfruit), J Thrilla (with dark chocolate and coconut butter drizzle), and Life of Pi (with Kabocha squash, pumpkin spice, and vanilla bean). For those who don’t know which donut to choose from, the donut shops offer a 4-pack tasting box. Customers can expect to find a handful of different coffees here as well.

“Our pilgrimage: to create the world’s greatest donut experience,” according to their website. “Our sacred dough changes the arch of history by using the superfood taro as our starch. Hawaiian-grown taro root has been pounded and fermented to create a dough base, unlike any donut incarnations before it. Each dough is fried in coconut oil, and our weekly tasting box celebrates our community. Join us in parting the seas for new donut beliefs!”

Correction: This article has been updated to include the address of the Santa Monica location, as well as the opening date for that restaurant.
