What started as a food truck in 2018 has flourished into a sweet sensation with multiple brick-and-mortar outposts. The new Long Beach location will mark their third in Los Angeles and fifth overall, with additional stores in Santa Monica and Larchmont, and two in Hawaii.

Founded by Hana and Nile Dreiling, the siblings developed an innovative technique that transforms taro starch into a doughnut base. “Hawaiian grown taro root has been pounded and fermented to create a dough base unlike any donut incarnations before it [and] each dough is fried in coconut oil,” says their website.

Their unique flavors, which range from Chaga Chai to Dandelion Chocolate, quickly gained a cult-like following, even attracting notable investors like Tony Hawk.

The owners could not be immediately reached for comment about the new Long Beach Holey Grail.
