Partners and chefs Tongkamal “Joy” Yuon and Wedchayan “Deau” Arpapornnopparat are excited to expand Holy Basil with their newest location on Atwater Village’s bustling Glendale Blvd. Still focusing on Bangkok/Central Thai Street Food, the pair is expanding the menu to incorporate more dishes from their YUM weekend pop-up which will feature rotating seafood focused fare including Dungeness Crab Curry, Oyster Salad, Thai Aguachile and more. The new location will also serve brunch which will include a menu of traditional Asian dishes such as kai jeaw (Thai egg omelette), jok (Thai rice porridge), Thai toast, Vietnamese bánh mi sandwiches, Chinese donuts with poached eggs and more.

Holy Basil Atwater will have a more extensive wine menu curated by Elliot Wang, formerly of Everson Royce Bar. The program will focus on a rotating list of natural wines, sake and rice wines to complement Wedchayan’s food. The Atwater menu will also feature non-alcoholic Thai inspired cocktails by The Base.

A departure from the walk-up window concept in downtown, Holy Basil Atwater’s space features indoor seating including a section of counter seats along with a handful of small tables. There is also an outdoor space for dining.

Both Joy and Deau are originally from Thailand, but first met in Los Angeles at Chan Dara Thai restaurant in West LA. Over the years, the two have garnered a broad spectrum of experience at a variety of restaurants around Los Angeles, but craved Thai street food. While Los Angeles is a hot bed for Thai food, the two wanted to focus on their favorite dishes they missed, while utilizing the great produce found at various farmers markets, as well as quality meat and fish purveyors.

Their first foray into food was their YUM pop up, which featured a menu of ‘yum’ dishes, meaning dishes dressed/tossed in a sauce primarily made with fish sauce and citrus (usually lime). The menu was a hit, so they decided to do a series of these. When a space became available in Santee Alley in Downtown Los Angeles, the duo decided to open an actual walk-up window. This would become Holy Basil, where fragrant Thai soups, curries and stir fries come out piping hot and full of heat – available for takeout and delivery.

Holy Basil Atwater is located at 3170 Glendale Blvd, Los Angeles CA 90039.

Soft Opening Schedule (January 25th-February 4th): Thursdays- Friday: 4-9 PM and Saturday- Sunday: 11-6 PM.

Normal hours of operation are Monday-Sunday 11am-9pm.
