The Los Angeles Planning Commission on Thursday will review plans to construct a five-story replacement of the DOCS Surgical Hospital building in the Mid-Wilshire neighborhood at 6000 San Vicente Blvd., according to its meeting agenda. The new 48,000-square-foot facility would be more than double the size of the existing center, which specializes in spinal and orthopedic care, in an effort to provide a broader range of medical services for its specialties, such as urgent care for spine-related emergency cases, according to planning documents on file with the city.

Rising about 81 feet, the new building would occupy the western portion of the property, with 40 parking spaces provided between the ground floor of the building and surface parking on the site’s eastern portion.

Its second through fifth floors would hold various hospital functions, including surgical rooms and recovery rooms, along with a dining room and kitchen, while the ground floor would include a pharmacy or retail store.

Plans call for the building’s roof to include a landscaped deck with an outdoor recreation area and for a community garden to be on site.

The architect for the project is Thousand Oaks-based Mesa Design Architects, plans show.

A webpage for the plans shows the facility would include four operating theaters, 17 inpatient suites, and an imaging center, listing a projected opening date in mid-2023.

The site was acquired by 6000 SV Holdings LLC for $20 million in 2019, according to Los Angeles County property records. Also a manager of the development team’s holding company is Dr. Brian Perri, who is also a founding partner and physician at DOCS.
