It’s a well-known fact that Los Angeles is home to handfuls of famous spaces, and iconic lodging accounts for a massive fraction of what makes the landscape what it is.

Often laced with the ghosts and glamour of Old Hollywood, hotels like WeHo’s The Standard not only add to LA’s character but serve as a place for the city to celebrate itself in all its dream-driven glory.
That ended in 2021, when the hotel’s ownership made the tough decision to shutter its Standard brand, including locations in DTLA, East Village, New York (High Line), London, Miami Beach, and West Hollywood.
Fortunately, Studio 54 co-founder Ian Schrager and Chelsea Hotel founder Ed Scheetz have purchased the three-story, 137-room Hollywood venue, and, in even better news, appear to be in the process of renovating the space for reopening.
According to a planning document very recently filed with Epic LA’s electronic permitting & inspection site, the building at 8300 W. Sunset Boulevard is undergoing detailing to its lobby and amenity spaces, which includes a restaurant and bar area. The hotel also has a pool area and two semi-subterranean parking levels.
What Now Los Angeles reached out to Scheetz to find out what might be in the works, but did not receive immediate feedback. Per Eater LA, the property will eventually rebrand into another name which has not yet been announced.
