Toast is Heading Home After COVID Closure With A Nearby Opening And An Updated Concept

There are multiple "Toast" locations open, and this new Whittier location will be the fourth overall -- serving brunch and alcohol

The original Toast on 11119 1st Ave in Whittier closed down in March, due to COVID. While two other locations remain open with similar concepts, owner Cynthia Vigil has decided to take Toast home with a slightly updated concept, Toast Kitchen and Bar, which will open on 16435 Whittier Blvd, just down the street from the first opening.

“It’s an American brunch restaurant but there will also be Mexican brunch options,” Vigil told What Now Los Angeles (WNLA) of the new Toast Kitchen and Bar. “We already have a location of Toast down the street. It’s been closed since March.” The new restaurant will be replacing The Colonial Banquets at the space. It’ll be bigger than the previous restaurants of similar names, utilizing the larger space for social distancing. “We designed the space knowing we’d have to social distance for the next year. We have plenty of seating six feet apart.”

Toast Kitchen and Bar still has to go through the health department and liquor license approval. “Everything is very slow,” especially since pandemic protocols mean the city won’t even touch the plans for 72 hours for disinfection. Despite that, Vigil is excited to be back at Toast’s home turf. The owner also revealed they’re going to keep their old location that shut down earlier this year to turn it into something different — a similar concept, but with notable changes, much like all of their “toast” restaurants.

After the opening and reopening, there are future openings on the horizon, as Vigil is constantly looking for similar places to open up.
