Avila’s newest restaurant, backed by the Relevant Group and Ten Five Hospitality, will move into its new home in Hollywood by the end of the year, according to Eater LA. Ka’Teen will feature 5,000 square feet of complete outdoor dining full of greenery decor designed by Bernadette Blanc. Customers can expect coastal Mexican flavors, mainly Yucatán, surrounded by lots of plants and palm fronds.

Ka’Teen aims to pay homage to the Yucatan Peninsula’s rich culinary history with its menu, designed by Avila. The star chef uses the flavors and feelings of the Mayan Riviera and the Yucatán Peninsula in every aspect of the restaurant. Customers can expect a lot of Mexican flavors in their tostadas, ceviches, tacos, and cochinita pibil. Larger groups can have a whole fish for the table. On top of the flavorful menu, Ka’Teen will also have handmade tortillas and cocktails.

As a Los Angeles native raised in Pico Rivera, Avila has had great success with his Mexican restaurants. The author/ chef founded Guerrilla Tacos as a street cart in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles in August 2012. A year later, he graduated from the street cart to a food truck and then a brick-and-mortar in 2018. Recently, Avila has made significant steps to prove he is one of the area’s best chefs.

In June 2020, he partnered with Ace Hotel Kyoto to open Piopiko Tacos in Kyoto, Japan. A few months later, he stepped down as executive chef of Guerrilla Tacos, a move that shocked his followers. A year later, he opened the Angry Egret Dinette in Los Angeles to serve genre-bending LA street food with selected local ingredients. Ka’Teen, which Avila describes as “the latest evolution in the Alta California vernacular,” will be a defining restaurant for the chef’s career.
