The vegetarian-friendly restaurant/ breakfast and brunch spot first opened in Laguna Beach in 1988 under owner John Secretan. The cafe was inspired by the quality food movement initiated by Alice Waters of Chez Panisse in Berkeley, CA. Then, Secretan expanded into Los Angeles and Orange County again with new locations in Downtown LA and Corona Del Mar. Now, Secretan gets ready to open his second Los Angeles location sometime in Summer 2022, according to their website.

When the new location does open, customers can expect a healthy breakfast and brunch menu, plus American classics for lunch and dinner, such as burgers, pizzas, and sandwiches. Some of their specialties include Spanish lasagna, mushroom nut loaf, and a zinc salad filled with greens, feta, tomatoes, pine nuts, kalamata olives, croutons, and zinc vinaigrette. Each restaurant features daily specials that can change at any point. Current specials include curried red lentil soup, red bel pepper squash quiche, and a blackberry preserve sponge cake.

“Zinc has a beating heart,” according to their website. “It is designed for people to connect to each other and to the community in which they live. Zinc provides through aesthetics, food, and emotions a special landscape for our customers to gather. It provides a resting spot for regaining and sustaining our strengths, emotions, and values through a caring, nurturing, thoughtful and artistic environment. Great food, thoughtful people, and a beautiful environment is what Zinc strives for every day of its life.”
