Mother Wolf comes from Los Angeles chef Evan Funke, who has made a name for himself through his previous restaurants. Before Mother Wolf, Funke has become well-known with both Felix and Bucato. The seventh-generation Angeleno also temporarily opened another Hollywood restaurant last year called Fingers Crossed. The new restaurant will focus on authentic Italian dishes Funke has learned about after years of traveling and learning about the country, specifically the city of Rome.

Mother Wolf will move into the recently remodeled Citizen News Building, a 48,000 square foot property. The new restaurant will sit next to chef Lincoln Carson’s upcoming French restaurant Mes Amis, located within the Thompson Hotel. The historic Citizen News Building was constructed from 1930 to 1931 and previously housed a newspaper with the same name. Developer Relevant Group decided to rehabilitate the building back in 2019.

Few details have surfaced regarding Mother Wolf. What is known is the inspiration behind the dishes. Chef Funke will use his knowledge of Italian flavor to create a unique menu that would honor Rome. Most likely, the restaurant will focus on pizza, pasta, and antipasto with cured meats, pepperoncini, anchovies, olives, artichoke hearts, mushrooms, and various cheeses. It’s more than likely the restaurant will also feature a deep Italian wine cellar.

Correction: This article previously misstated Mother Wolf will share the space with Lincoln Carson’s upcoming French restaurant Mes Amis. The two restaurants will sit next to each other, but not in the same building.
